See you at the show, dear paintings!

This weekend I finished my paintings for the Scary Art Project in Fort Collins, CO. I ended up painting 9 for a collage, which is dwindled down from 14 (I was a bit ambitious haha). I also finished one other painting that I'll show you later, you've probably already seen her if you look back to one of my first posts ;)  My desk looks so lonely without all the monsters, so here are some progress photos while they still happily inhabited my work space!

Favorite Artist Friday: Chloe Giordano

Chloe Giordano is an illustrator who creates the most beautiful and detailed embroidered pieces. If anyone ever doubts the art of embroidery, direct them towards Chloe so they will be forced to recant their statement.

“Mr Lisbon kept trying to lift her off, gently, but even in our ignorance we knew it was hopeless and that despite Cecilia’s open eyes and the way her mouth kept contracting like that of a fish on a stringer it was just nerves and she had succeeded, on the second try, in hurling herself out of the world.”

Favorite Artist Friday: Becca Stadtlander

Becca Stadtlander is an artist I only recently discovered, but she's been a successful artist for a decent amount of time. It was hard not to post every single one of her paintings!

Happy Friday! I need to get back to work on my own paintings now...

Sayonara Toad Spots

I started working on painting 3 of 14 for an upcoming art show, but the flow just wasn't right. If this was a solo piece I would have kept his spots, but it really clashed with the other paintings, so I stripped them off (gouache is really easy to remove on this wood) and I'm starting over again. I'm thinking he'll be a dark blue or something...   And hopefully I'll be able to finish the 14 paintings by next Thursday! CHALLENGE ACCEPTED.

Finished 1 of 14

The first of 14 small paintings is finished! This is my first attempt at using gouache on wood (I've used it exclusively on paper) and I'm feeling pretty good about it. Gouache is much easier to use than acrylic and way more versatile than watercolor. Seriously, where has gouache been all my life?!

Finished! But no spoilers until the show, only sneak peeks ;) (Taken with Instagram)

I hope everyone has a pleasant weekend! I'll be posting more progress pics and sneak peeks as I finish each painting. Until then!

Works in Progress

My work space as of tonight. I committed to being in Scary Art Project this upcoming October. Not only am I excited that I can participate this year (had to skip last year), but also because it's a Halloween art show! How is that NOT awesome? They eyeball monster lady in the background is still in progress, and I'm also working on a cluster of 14 mini paintings on wood. I AM SO PUMPED.

Favorite Artist Friday: Alice Ferrow

If you look to the right of my blog, you will see a freakishly long list of very talented people. Since going through every name can be a time sucker (a rewarding and inspirational time sucker, though) I'm going to go down the list and feature one artist each Friday. It's just easier that way. SO, today I'm showing my favorite pieces by Alice Ferrow. Enjoy!

Ahoy! This is my art blog where I'll post progress photos and finished pieces alike, and anything else that floats my boat! The above photos are my progress for my little self portrait (yes, I actually have that sweater). Take a look at the top of my blog for links to find me elsewhere on the internet. n_n
