Locusts and Cats

This past week was littered with small successes and slightly bigger frustrations, but with those come valuable learning experiences. I learned more in the past couple of weeks about inkjet printers than I have the past year! Plus, I'm finally taking notes on the various settings for each paper I use... Printing aside, now I can focus on a project I've been planning for about a month, which involves something locust like (it's a secret!). This morning I started practicing their anatomy. Every time I practice still lifes or realistic subjects I realize how much I miss it! It's a good test for improvement with speed, rendering, and proportion and I'm forced to draw shapes and lines I'm not accustomed to. And for some reason I start fantasizing about being an art teacher and how I would use mornings for optional still life practice and all the tips I would be able to tell the students... I also decided I should draw more bugs.
Under much deliberation, my black cat necklace is up for sale in my shop! She's painted with acrylic on a wood pendant and measures 2.25" in diameter, and she's one of a kind!

In caffeine related news, Morning Thunder tea is my new coffee. Yum :)

Kittens in Space

Kittens in Space | 8"x10" | Gouache & Micron

Kittens in Space! I finished the painting a couple of weeks ago even though I didn't plan on completing it to begin with! (At least, that's my excuse why they're not attached to a ship in any way.) It started as a test for a new masking fluid I bought, but I liked the idea of kittens filling up a space suit too much not to finish it! After taking the final picture I added a few more finishing touches like painting the edges and few minor pen details here and there. Hopefully I can make this into prints soon!

Valentine Goodies!

Valentine goodies! Anatomical heart pins and Valentine owls are now available in my shop! Aside from finally having time to take pictures today, I finished painting 5 small chubby bunny paintings yesterday that are also destined to become Valentine's day cards, or something of the greeting card variety. Enjoy a little preview of the chubby cuties!

This week was a fantastic week for productivity and full of subtle Valentine's Day art!  I made some sweet somethings that show someone you care that don't involve a gross amount of red and pink (those poor, poor colors.) They'll be available in my shop soon!
Original is painted with gouache.

Anatomical hearts painted with gouache on wood. I'm undecided if these should be pins or necklaces...

~In addition, cat ornaments are now 50% off!~

New Calendar!

Finally have a new calendar! I decided to make my own this year since I was really picky about them for some reason. I guess I'm still a bit old school and need to put important dates down on paper where I'll see them everyday vs. on my phone. There is a never ending supply of calendars with beautiful art but they don't have any space for writing! So, since I have a huge art crush on Stasia Burrington I bought a pack of her greeting cards and designed a calendar around them. Each piece measures 10 3/4in x 6 1/2in. I didn't want the cards to be permanent since I plan on framing them later, so I cut four lines in the paper for each corner and slipped the corner of the card through. And now I can get a daily dosage of inspiration by Stasia :) She designed a really cute girls calendar available for purchase, so be sure to check it out

I think my camera is out of focus...

Have a wonderful day!

New Year Doodles

Happy belated New Year's! My husband and I celebrated our 1 year wedding anniversary and 8 years of togetherness at midnight on New Year's! Yay! (Sappy, I know ;) )  I've just been doodling and sketching a lot because I'm planning some larger projects. Also, a new desk found its way into my studio and has been intimidating me because it's so nice, and clean, and stable, and I really don't want to disappoint it! So here's another photo dump for you!

Shy fox

Sweaters, scarves, and kitties!

A little Scully (been watching LOTS of X-Files lately...)

Stress release sketch

Quick paint sketch with acrylic (from dec.)

...and a closeup.
